History

On August 2, 1978, Bob Nannini’s second son, Jay, was born. That same day, he told the local newspaper his dream was to someday own an entire organization. With just three pieces in his fleet of excavating and construction equipment, Bob was a so-called “one man band” who simply loved working for himself.

Business partner Andy Callahan joined Bob a year later, as Nannini and Callahan Excavating was officially incorporated in 1979. Ever since, Bob has been steadfast in his motto, providing products and services for “whatever the customer calls for.” From demolition to snowplowing, Bob and Andy established themselves as leaders in the field.

Bob stayed true to his aspirations and in 1980 expanded the business by acquiring a shale and limestone quarry in Salisbury Mills, New York. The quarry had been mined since 1960, but with little development. As Callahan and Nannini Quarry grew to meet customer demands, so did his fleet of equipment – and the staff roster. Rob and Jay Nannini, now Vice Presidents of the corporation, began operating equipment before their feet could touch the pedals. Guided by their father, who instilled the values of hard work and dedication, the boys soon began full-time jobs at the family business after graduating from high school and college, respectively. Since 2011, the quarry has been single–handedly run by the Nannini family.

Callahan and Nannini Quarry was once a simple dream to provide for a family. That dream continues to become a reality: in 2009, Bob’s daughter, Leigh, joined the office staff as head of communications and public outreach. Bob still manages the organization with a commitment to his family, his customers, and today’s ever-changing marketplace. By providing New York State DOT materials and offering on-site crushing, the business has been able to flourish, yet the family values that keep it going remain constant.
